About Addiction

Drug addiction & Opioid Dependence is a disease of the brain defined as:

• Loss of control over drug use
• Compulsive seeking and taking of a drug regardless of consequences



Roughly half the risk of addiction is genetic. Repeated drug use alters the shape and function of the brain, often times leading to chronic brain dysfunction and abnormal behavior.

Unfortunately, addiction can be a chronic relapsing condition. Fortunately, new methodologies and technologies are offering us greater understanding and treatment.
